Pylypivka Project

Pylypivka has begun! During this 40-day period of reflection, fasting, and sacrifice, we all endeavor to prepare ourselves spiritually for the approaching celebration of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ! As a school community, we take it upon ourselves to also practice the virtue of charity and give generously to our community in order to aid those less fortunate than ourselves during this season of giving!

This year, Student Council is inviting all St. Sofia families to take part in our annual Pylypivka project in two ways, to support those in need in our local community as well as those in need abroad.

Firstly, St. Sofia is once again turning our attention to Dzherelo Children’s Rehabilitation Centre in Lviv. Ukraine, where children with disabilities in Ukraine are given the opportunity to realize their fullest potential, both physically and intellectually, in a society that accepts as well as respects their rights and appreciates their unique gifts.

Dzherelo Centre offers not only exceptional services free of charge for children, their families and members of the community at large, but also supports the professionals who work with them. A leader and innovator in children’s rehabilitation in Ukraine, Dzherelo Centre is one of just a few groups in the country able to provide training for staff from other Ukrainian institutions and organizations determined to create a similar environment for disabled children in their own regions.

Secondly, we wish to open our hearts to the needy in our local community, who find themselves in need of warmth as winter approaches. We invite all St. Sofia families to donate warm mittens, gloves, scarves, and toques, which will be distributed to those in need in our own communities.

Every Friday between now and the Christmas Break will be a civvies day for all students who participate in our Pylypivka charity campaigns! On these days, students are invited to support our causes by donating either $2 towards Dzherelo, or by donating a gift of warm winter wear. Let’s all show true compassion during this season of giving.
