On Feb 15th we celebrated “Stritennia” and Flag Day.
Fr. Roman Galadza from St. Elias Church and Fr. Bahriy from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church led the Moleben.
According to the law of Moses, when Jesus was forty days old, Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. Being poor, they could not offer a lamb as a gift to God, but they offered two doves for their purification. The Catholic Church continues to observe this practice even today. Every child born into a Catholic family is taken to church to be presented to the Lord. This feast is also known as the “Blessing of the Candles” because candles are blessed and distributed to all participants. Following the liturgy, we also celebrated Flag Day together.
We were fortunate to have the Knights of Columbus from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church, St. Demetrius Ukrainian Church, and St. Josaphat Ukrainian Church join us for these celebrations.
